LEADING A CLUB RIDE To Home Page

Leading a club or group ride really Isn't difficult. There are just a few steps you need to consider and a few plans you need to make.

1.
Schedule the ride and make sure a description goes to the newsletter editor. Select your route and pre~ride if possibe noting all turns, distances, and hazards. You can use a dub ride that has been created and get the dub ride sheet or create your own. Have copies made of the ride sheet. The ride sheet can be a fancy or as simple as you wish as long as it has all turns noted.

2. At the beginning:  Plan to arrive early (if possible at least 2O~30 minutes) and allow 5 to 10 minutes for latecomers. Greet the riders as they arrive; welcome them and SMILE. Introduce yourself, give a short verbal orientation consisting of the destination, route, special hazards, rules of the road, expected stops or regrouping points, introduce the "sweep and give any special information.

3. Try to have route sheets for each rider. It's nice to have a map too.

4. On the road:  Get them going, let the slower riders go first but you or your designate should be sweep,  and leave last. The faster riders will quickly catch up and pass the first group. As you move up and catch up with the slower riders group - socialize.

5. Model safety and good riding technique. Obey the rules of the mad and remind others to do the same. Remember a ride is not a race, so relax, chat and enjoy the scenery.

6. Try to account for all riders at the finish even if it's only noticing that the cars are gone.

7. There, that wasn't so hard was it? So volunteer and lead a ride
