1. Riders will follow all traffic laws.
2. Riders will follow all Pequot Cyclist regulations listed in the membership application.
3. Courses shall be designated by the race committee, and shall be ridden accordingly.
4. Leaving or short-cutting the course is not permitted.
5. It is forbidden for a rider to modify sections of the course or their configuration.
6. Riders may not seek help from followers, with the exception of medical and mechanical
assistance.
7. In case of accident, participants shall be required immediately to administer first aid, or at
least to call for help. Time losses incurred in this way shall be confirmed by the
competitor himself/herself.
8. Repairs may be undertaken during the race, but not in any place liable to hamper or
endanger riders.
9. Sections may be covered on foot.
10. Riders may not draft behind other riders or vehicles.
11. Riders will stay as far as possible to the right side of the road so that they do not obstruct
the road.
12. Riders will pass others on the left side and provide a verbal warning "on your left" before
passing.
13. Starts are given at half-minute intervals, each competitor shall be responsible for
observing the starting time set for him/her.
14. Any rider dropping out of the race shall notify the race committee.
15. Riders who completed the race will not loiter in the finishing area.
16. Competitors may file objections. Objections will be provided in writing to the race
committee.
17. Riders will display their race number visibly.
18. Race committee decisions are final.
19. Riders must be at least 9 years of age to participate.
20. Categories in bike racing depend on age and gender. The age class a rider is eligible to
ride is determined by his age, which shall be calculated by deducting the year of birth
from the current year. Categories are as follows; Male 9-18 years old, Female 9-18 years
old, Male 19-29 years old, Female 19-29 years old, Male 30-39 years old, Female 30-39
years old, Male 40-49 years old, Female 40-49 years old, Male 50-59 years old, Female
50-59 years old, Male 60-69 years old, Female 60-69 years old, Male 70-79 years old,
Female 70-79 years old
21. Additional categories will be added as necessary.
22. Within each division there will be subdivisions based on the type of bicycle. Valid bicycle
types are road and mountain. In order for a bicycle to be classified in the mountain
category it must have knobby tires larger than 1.5 inches in cross section diameter and
may not have aero bars. Recumbent bicycles may be ridden in the road bicycle
category.
23. Tandem bicycles will be assigned to a racing category based on the mean age of its
riders and the gender of its youngest rider.
24. Overall standings will be determined by a point system. For each category, points will be
assigned for each night of racing. The shortest time will be assigned points equal to the
number of racers in the category with each longer time being assigned one fewer point.
For example, if there are three racers in a category, points will be assigned as follows.

25. Points will be totaled at the end of the season to
determine the victor in each category.
